I am about to embark on a new and exciting journey in photography! I am going deeper, reaching higher, and dreaming BIGGER. I am creating a new fantasy series. One that will take quite some time to complete, but I will be journaling each step here. My assistant Khalia will be photographing behind the scenes to bring you the story behind the new photos. We will be telling the story of our journey and in the process, weaving a richer tapestry of images. Each one, once the series is complete, will be a limited edition. The wardrobe will be more elaborate, the backgrounds more fantastical. The series will be a world all it's own, and you will be able to witness it's birth. Each scene will be painsakingly and carefully set up, with extreme attention to detail.
There was a time, not long ago where I created fantasy scenes using a composite method. I would photograph what I needed, then insert it into the photo. Sometimes I ended up combining 30-40 photographs to make one scene! Below is an example of one of my fantastical photomontages.
The girl was wearing none of what you see here, the stone arch was not there, nor the trees, nor the flowers, nor the horse! Ah, the wonders of Photoshop! While I very much enjoyed the challenge of this kind of work, I am taking the opposite approach this time. The photomontages came to be because I was too shy to approach models, and I did not have the network in place that I have now. My resource base has changed dramatically after working in fashion photography, and so the new series will be created with a minimum of Photoshop. What you see in the photo will be there at the time of shooting. This means I will be creating a lot of the wardrobe and props by hand. Timing of each shoot will be carefully timed with the seasons for maximum impact. Due to the nature of this type of work, I will have to photograph some of the series out of sequence, which will leave some gaps in the time span of the blog. Please be patient during these times, and know there is much going on behind the scenes that is not immediately visible, but the results will be well worth the wait! In the meantime, I will continue to bring you fashion shoots and mini fantasy shoots not related to the new series. I will still be available for portrait sessions during the creating of the new series, but due to time constrictions, fewer time slots will be available than before. This means sessions will fill quickly, so contact me soon if you want in for a spring session!
