Tamarack Marketplaces' annual Small Packages show is a favorite for holiday shoppers. Each work in the show is no larger than 12x12, making them perfect for gift giving.
This year is my first year participating, and it's my first show at Tamarack that I will be showing both original paintings and photography.
Two of my acrylic paintings were selected and three photographs were also selected.
The show runs from November 14th-January 3rd. Works can be purchased through the gallery by calling 304-256-6843 ext.7329 or ext. 7343.
Original acrylic paintings:
1) 'Love Gives You Wings' 8x8 (9x9 with frame) on canvas, black wood frame. $315.
Cardinals tend to mate for life and one of the symbolisms they embody is that of love and devotion. I wanted to honor that symbolism as is has been an important influence in my own life, nurturing and enabling my career as an artist.
This is my first bird painting. No reference photos were used. The birds were created solely from my imagination. I wanted to portray them in a more whimsical way, highlighting the bright fanciful plumage of the male and the fluffy but slightly disheveled cuteness of the female with the hungry newborn chick.
2) 'Moonlight Mischief' 8x10 (9x11 with frame)on canvas, black wood frame. $475
This painting was inspired by a trip to Isle Royale in my college days, and it's one of my favorite memories from that time period. I was backpacking through the island and we were camped in a birch forest one night. It was almost midnight and the moon was full, casting a silvery glow through the white forest. I was mesmerized by the light and the sight of foxes playing among the trees. It was very magical! No reference photos were used. This scene was created solely from my memories of that night.
Photography giclee works on Hahnemuhle watercolor paper:
1) 'The Beauty Tree' 5x7 in 8x10 grey wood frame, white mat $250.
I found this Sycamore tree on my first visit to Lost Valley Trail in Ponca, AR. Every hike after that I visited this tree to enjoy it's beauty. Eventually the tree broke in a storm and is no longer there, but it's memory lives on through this photograph.
2) 'Winter Wonderland' 5x7 in 8x10 natural wood frame, white mat $250.
West Virginia doesn't get many really big snowstorms. The first two years I lived here, it hardly snowed at all. I grew up in Minnesota, so I love snowstorms that cover the trees in a magical layer of deep snow. I woke up to see this scene in WV on my birthday last year and had to go play in it!
3) 'Glade Creek Mill' 5x7 in 8x10 black wood frame, white mat $250
This mill in Babcock State Park is one of the most iconic scenes in WV and is a favorite place for travelers to stop to enjoy the scenery, history and purchase some yummy treats.
