Painted Dogwoods

Painted Dogwoods Spring is my favorite season. Spring is about new life, new beginnings and potential for the coming year. I love seeing all the different blooms and everything seems to bloom all at once! I often wander nature areas with my camera to capture the beauty of spring. This image was captured on an overcast day in early spring in AR. Dogwoods have always been a favorite for their simple beauty that stands out in the spring forest. The road leading to my house at the time was filled with dogwoods and I enjoyed driving through that white forest every spring. The simple black background is a result of the lighting and camera settings and it sets off the flowers well, keeping the focus on them. I finished the image with my signature hand-painted technique by adding subtle layers of shading and color mixing using digital software, a tablet and pen. No AI was used to create this image. Yellow Peonies

Yellow Peonies A friend brought me these yellow peonies as a gift from her garden. They smelled so wonderful! The flowers were huge and so lovely that I wanted to preserve them in a photograph. I knew that peonies fade quickly, so I set the vase in an area where I could capture dramatic natural light to show the multiple layers of petals and the fullness of the blooms. If only cameras could capture the scent as well! The simple black background is a result of the lighting and camera settings (The actual background was a red chair), and it sets off the flowers well, keeping the focus on them.
