Description:

I first became intrigued with these mossy trees a year ago after the leaves had fallen. I had planned to return early this past autumn to capture the vibrant fall colors with the moss, but autumn color was extremely short-lived due to drought. I decided to get up early to drive an hour in hopes of capturing what was left of the color. I was happy to find there was still some color here, and because it was at dawn, there was a little bit of fog on the creek. The light and colors were soft and dreamy and the forest was so quiet and peaceful, having entered into autumnal slumber in anticipation of the coming winter. As I set up my camera and sat on the tree, I felt like a woman in a James Waterhouse painting and half expected to see a fairy peeking at me from behind a nearby tree!

Grayson Lake State Park is over 1500 acres of forest with sheer sandstone bluffs and a lake. Once a favorite camping site of the Shawnee and Cherokee Native Americans, it is now one of Kentucky's most beloved parks for hiking, fishing and camping
