Deeply Honored: Announcing Our Awards At The French Art Colony Exhibition!

An Artistic Exhibition & Celebration at the French Art Colony

I’m deeply honored to share that Melanie Myhre Art has been recognized with 3 awards at the French Art Colony in Gallipolis, OH. This annual 4th of July celebration has been bringing artists, collectors, and the community together for over 58 years, and this year feels especially meaningful as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

About the Awards

The exhibition offers something for art lovers and collectors at every level. The juried gallery show features the work of both professional and emerging artists, while the outdoor pavilion highlights non-juried artwork from all participating artists. The juried exhibition, reviewed by three tri-state jurors, includes awards for Best in Show, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, Honorable Mentions for both Professional and Amateur categories, and purchase awards.

If you’re in or near Gallipolis, OH, we invite you to visit the French Art Colony and experience the exhibition in person. The charming town of Gallipolis will also be celebrating the holiday with its annual 4th of July festivities, so there will be plenty to see and do!

 

'A Day In The Life Of A Kansas Housewife'

Somewhere in Kansas, there is a pretty stone house, a flower garden and a clothesline filled with only white clothing. (Why is all her laundry white except the red dress?) Life here is routine, and complacency has settled in. In the distance, a very ominous storm is rolling in, covering the sun and threatening the status quo. The wind has caught a red dress, a woman and her dog chase after the dress as it spirals into the storm. A metaphor for a dream forgotten, or perhaps remembered too late? Like the red dress, we sometimes lose sight of the things that matter most, and they are gone before we realize it.

'Moonlight Mischief'

'Moonlight Mischief' 8x10 (9x11 with frame)on canvas, black wood frame. $525

This painting was inspired by a trip to Isle Royale in my college days, and it's one of my favorite memories from that time period. I was backpacking through the island and we were camped in a birch forest one night. It was almost midnight and the moon was full, casting a silvery glow through the white forest. I was mesmerized by the light and the sight of foxes playing among the trees. It was very magical! No reference photos were used. This scene was created solely from my memories of that night.

'The Forest At Worlds' End'

 11x15 print in a black frame with black mat and non-glare acrylic. I photographed myself in a pine tree stand at Hurricane City Park. The tall pines give a sense of vastness at the edge of the world. It was the perfect setting to create an otherworldly dreamy effect.
